THE
STORY
PLASTIC
PEOPLE is about positivity. It is about creating a product
that makes people smile. PLASTIC PEOPLE is
image... a happy exterior,
always smiling, even if the inside (of the bag) is
a complete mess!
Though we realize products cannot bring true happiness, at least a
bit of outer fun and a happy accessory can make a person smile. Will
seeing
the symbol of a heart remind a person to be kind? If so, by carrying
this you are contributing to goodness in the world. Carrying a PLASTIC
PEOPLE bag is like speading the love to everyone you pass... like eminating
'love bubbles'...
We hope that even if connections are superficial or 'plastic', it is
that initial, positive superficiality that leads to the REAL CONNECTIONS
in this VIRTUAL
WORLD.
ABOUT
SHANNON L SOUTH
Creative
Director, Shannon South, is a product designer, furniture designer,
web designer and entrepreneur. She has been designing accessories
for over 10 years and was first inspired during
a trip
to London
where she discovered the infamous Portabello Market with many
talented people exhibiting their designs.
Shannon started sewing seriously while in college where she would
design a new outfit for clubbing every weekend as well as accessories
to match. She sold
her bags to local boutiques
and exhibited at fashion shows
in Gainesville, while studying Electronic Media (BFA) at the University
of Florida.
Having
spent much time abroad, living in London,
Oslo, Copenhagen and Amsterdam, Shannon finds travel to be one of her largest
sources of inspiration. She moved to New York in 1999, and has worked in
advertising, web
design,
and accessory
design.
Shannon has a masters degree in industrial design
from Pratt Institute (Brooklyn) and she
has worked with world renowned product and interiors designer, Marcel Wanders,
in the Netherlands where she has learned the value of 'the story' in design.
Shannon makes all of her own prototypes and for a long time sewed every order
her self.
